Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve
Beringer
RP -
The final blend for the 2004
Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve has turned out fabulously. The
wine’s dense purple colour is accompanied by a rich, sumptuous bouquet
of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, chocolate, toast, and spice
box. It possesses fabulous fruit, low acidity, a rich, full-bodied
mouthfeel, and a long, pure finish. This cuvee remains one of the
most underrated great Cabernet Sauvignons of Napa. |

Napanook
Dominus
2nd Wine of Dominus
RP -
The second wine (3,100
cases), the 2003 Napanook, is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4%
Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot and Malbec. It offers a dark
plum/garnet colour as well as an evolved but intriguing nose of cedar,
spice box, high quality cigar smoke, sweet currants, incense, red
cherries, plums, and black currants. Complex with excellent
concentration, beautiful balance, and sweet tannin, it can be drunk now
or cellared for another 10-15 years. |

PETER MICHAEL WINERY
RP -
The Peter Michael Winery is
the California outpost of British-born
Sir Peter Michael who has shown a Midas touch for selecting brilliant
winemakers, including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, Luc Morlet and more
recently Luc’s brother, Nicolas. The consistency of these offerings from
the cool climate hillside vineyards in Knight’s Valley and the Sonoma
Coast has been respected and cherished by each of these winemakers. |

Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene
Peter Michael Winery
RP -
There are only 450 cases
of the 2009 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene. One of the finest 2009s, it
reveals lots of leesy, waxy, honeyed notes intermixed with pineapple,
buttered apple and other assorted tropical fruits. This elegant,
medium to full-bodied, rich, intense 2009 came in at 15.2% alcohol,
which is slightly lower than the 2008 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene |

Chardonnay Mon Plaisir
Peter Michael Winery
RP -
Contrasting with the
Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille is the 2008 Chardonnay Mon Plaisir, which
reveals more white peach, nectarine and citrus oil notes as well as a
slightly richer, thicker texture, good acidity, slightly higher
alcohol (15.3%) and a smaller production of approximately 1,000 cases. |

Chardonnay La Carriere
Peter Michael Winery
RP -
The super-concentrated
2008 Chardonnay La Carriere (2,100 cases produced) exhibits that
tell-tale greenish hue to its straw color (which I always consider a
positive sign), boisterous alcohol (15.5%), deep, concentrated,
buttery flavours of nectarines, oranges, honeysuckle and subtle earth as
well as oak, and excellent acidity. This is a superb Chardonnay. |
