Inky ruby. Seductively aromatic nose offers ripe red and dark berries, smoky minerals, aged beef, baking spices and flowers. Sweet black raspberry and cassis flavours are firmed by youthfully bitter tannins and complicated by floral pastille, vanilla bean and sweet chewing tobacco qualities. This is already showing some complexity, so it wouldn't be criminal to drink it now, but I'd leave mine alone for at least another six years.

    DOMINO de PINGUS
A top Ribera del Duero estate who use Organic Methods in all the wine making. Their top wine "Pingus" is very sought and sells at £300 per bottle!
Their 2nd wine  "Flor de Pingus" is also of great quality, and represents great value compared to the top wine.

Peter Sisseck, a Dane trained in Bordeaux, was dispatched to Ribera del Duero, Spain, in 1990.
From the start, Sisseck aimed to produce top quality wines in small quantities. He consequently sought out particular terroir and parcels of ancient vines. Pingus was the first wine he produced independently and it was a triumph.
It soared to worldwide acclaim, as did Peter’s reputation as a truly gifted winemaker.
Flor de Pingus then followed.

Pingus is fully biodynamic and Flor is moving in that direction.
PSI Pingus is a new innovative project; 2007 being the first vintage.

RP -
In the wonderful 2004 vintage, owner/winemaker Peter Sisseck has outdone himself.
If I were just starting to build a wine collection and had limited income, I can think of no better foundation than a dozen bottles of 2004 Flor de Pingus.
In the context of the world’s great wines, it is a stupendous value, a steal. It is 100% Tempranillo from very low yields and is aged 14 months in 100% new French barriques. Opaque purple in colour, it emits already complex aromas of smoke, toast, coffee, blueberry, blackberry, and liquorice. Lush on the palate, super ripe and sweet, as well as multi-dimensional, this great effort can be drunk now, but I’d opt for cellaring it for 6-8 years to allow further evolution.

A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9,000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-coloured to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavour, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees.
