Clos des Papes
Chateauneuf-du-Pape BLANC
Wine Spectator -
Terrific purity and
precision. Like a young Meursault, with acacia flower, blanched almond
and honey notes pushed by a tangy, driven, minerally finish. Should age
well. |

DOMAINE
Le VIEUX DONJON
This estate is
run by Lucien Michel, his wife, Marie-José, and daughter Claire.
The White CNDP is refreshing and 'nutty', which makes a pleasant change
from the usual Chardonnay! |
|
|
An excellent estate that makes CNDP in
the traditional style.

Le Vieux Donjon
Chateauneuf-du-Pape BLANC
Wine Spectator -
Shows floral and citrus
notes, with a hint of bitter almond and a long, firm, stony finish that
lets the citrus note linger. |

DOMAINE CHAPOUTIER
Generally considered the very
best Hermitage Domaine: with a
very large selection of wines -all are organically made with great
attention to detail and quality. |
|
|
RP
- "With twenty vintages under his belt, Michel Chapoutier and his
impressive winemaking staff go from strength to strength. These are
among the world’s greatest wines, especially the single vineyard wines,
many of which will last 50 or more years".

Ermitage l'Ermite Blanc
RP -
At the very top of the
appellation’s dome of decomposed granite is l’Ermite. This wine is the
equivalent of drinking liquefied rocks. The 2005 Ermitage l’Ermite
blanc has that multi-layered mouthfeel, an extraordinary nose of intense
minerality, quince, and white fruits. Some of the vines in this
parcel are 130 years old, and the wine has over-the-top richness yet
amazing acidity, depth, and a freshness that is hard to believe given
its power and intensity. |

Ermitage Cuvee de l'Oree Blanc
RP -
The 2005 Ermitage Cuvee de
l’Oree is a spectacular wine, with notes of nectarine, quince,
honeyed hazelnuts, honeysuckle, and an almost exotic note buttressed by
excellent acidity and no notice of any oak. The wine has prodigious
richness and a full-bodied intensity that needs to be tasted to be
believed. This is stunning stuff that should drink well for 50 or
more years, but you can drink it over the next 4-5 years or forget
it for 12-15. |

DOMAINE
ETIENNE GUIGAL
According to Robert Parker this is
one of the best domaine's in all of France, and certainly the TOP
source for excellent Condrieu and Hermitage.
Best known for their red wine top single vineyards of La Mouline, La
Turque and La Landonne; they also make excellent White Hermitage and
Condrieu wines which are really top-class! |

Condrieu
La Doriane
RP -
Guigal is the largest
producer of Condrieu, and he continues to augment his production from
this tiny appellation. His 2005 Condrieu La Doriane is one of the finest
he has ever made. The wine is just spectacular and in 2005 went through
100% malolactic. The wine is sensationally rich with notes of crushed
rocks, white peach, spring flowers, and some bee’s wax and tropical
oils. Totally profound, with fabulous acidity, amazing richness and
length, this is a stunner that should drink well for 4-5 years, possibly
longer. |
