CLOS de la COULEE de SERRANT
Wine Spectator - Rather tight now, with a strong, sinewy feel to the ginger, chamomile, orange blossom, quince and humus notes. Almost bony, but it reveals some of its latent flesh with patience in the glass before turning remarkably elegant and lengthy in the end. |

Probably the best sweet wine from the Loire! |
|

Bonnezeaux from Ch. de Fesles is:
Made with 100% Botrytised Chenin Blanc grapes, which are hand
picked in 5-7 pickings. Fermented in oak casks for 1-2 months,

PUR SANG
Stephen Tanzer - Light gold. Pungent, incisive citrus and citrus peel aromas-especially lime-with exotic melon, peach, smoked meat and magnolia nuances. Concentrated, spicy and fresh, with tooth-rattling acidity buffered by a sweet, toasty note and deep peach, pear and lemon flavours. Finishes impressively deep and long, with a taut citrus zest character. A real essence of Loire sauvignon blanc. |

SILEX
Stephen Tanzer -
Yellow-gold.
Exotic, leesy toast, butter and smoke atop rich peach, yellow
apple and tangerine aromas. Broad, dense and chewy, with deep,
powerful apricot, pear and tangerine flavours and a smoky,
buttery quality that persists through the finish. Mineral notes
sneak in on the very back, along with building acidity, giving
this a taut, citrussy quality. Richer and deeper than the Pur
Sang. |

OLGA RAFFAULT, SAVIGNY-en-VERON

has been making very pure Chinon wines for 4 generations;
in fact Olga Raffault was the first female vigneron in France!.
The white wine is made in very small quantities, so is usually
in demand - it will keep for 10-12 years. |

DOMAINE
DES ROCHES NEUVES
This is
a top biodynamic domaine run by Thierry Germain - of the Chateau
des Fesles, Bernard Germain family.
The white is extremely elegant with good minerality, and a full
round fruit taste. This wine is great by itself or with white
meats and fish. |
|
|
These wines are very
popular in France; so are very difficult to obtain for export to
the UK. The
Revue du Vin de France (issue 513), considers this one of
the best domaine's in the Loire.
No wonder they are sought after, especially as they are
constantly sold-out as only small quantities are made.

They are not your 'normal' Muscadet and are worth exploring.

Most Muscadet today tends to be thin, acidic or flabby, and drunk too young.
These wines come from some of the best vineyards and are meant to be laid-down to reach their best. |
