DOMAINE
OLGA RAFFAULT, SAVIGNY-en-VERON
This is a top domaine that
has been making very pure CHINON wines for 4 generations;
in fact Olga Raffault was the first female vigneron in France!.
The red wines are soft but firm, and can be cellared 20+years in good
vintages.We
recently tasted the 1990 Les Picasses - it was wonderful, but needed to
be decanted as it was still quite young - that says something about the
potential of these wines! |
|
|
We
import these wines direct from the Domaine. |

Les Picasses is the
TOP wine of the domaine.
It spends 12-14months in oak barrels; resulting in a powerful yet
aromatic wine.
Will provide great pleasure 2008-25. |

Wow, what a great
wine, from an excellent vintage!
Still tastes young, so decant at least half an hour before drinking.
Will easily last another 10-25 years! |

DOMAINE
YANNICK AMIRAULT
A very good domaine for St Nicolas de
Bourgueil and Bourgueil wines.
The vineyards are worked organically and only natural yeasts are used. |

Jancis Robinson -
Tasted Oct 2012 - "Firm purple. Very juicy fruit. Lovely seamless
texture with the crackle of fine Cabernet Franc. Great stuff. Really
gets the saliva flowing. Very long" |

From a parcel of 35 year old vines, grown on
gravely soils.
This wine is unoaked so as to let the wine speak for itself!

CHATEAU de la DURANDIERE

The vineyards are situated just inside and outside the walls of Chateau
Montreuil Bellay, which is about
15 kms from Saumur. |

DOMAINE
FOUCAULT
CLOS ROUGEARD
This is
generally regarded as the best Saumur-Champigny producer
by the FRENCH wine press.
Try it a see if you
agree? |
|
|
According to Jancis Robinson
this is "...certainly
a seriously great producer of this seriously great and greatly
underrated wine style.
The Foucault brothers are the movers and shakers behind Clos
Rougeard and make extremely subtle wines that are designed to
age beautifully....". |

DOMAINE
DES ROCHES NEUVES
This is a
top biodynamic domaine run by Thierry Germain - of the Chateau
des Fesles, Bernard Germain family.
The reds are elegant but powerful; with a round full fruit taste
with a long lasting finish.
The 'Terres Chaudes' is full and round with lovely red
fruit taste, whereas the 'Marginale' is a really
wonderful powerhouse of a wine that needs at least 5 years
of cellaring to be at its best.
These wines are best consumed with red meat dishes. |
|
|
These wines are very
popular in France; so are very difficult to obtain for export to
the UK. The
Revue du Vin de France (issue 513), considers this one of
the best domaine's in the Loire.
No wonder they are sought after, especially as they are
constantly sold-out as only small quantities are made. |

Terres Chaudes

Dark, ripe and
driven, with plum cake, tobacco, tapenade and violet notes that
are finished off with an alluring kiss of cocoa. The long finish
echoes with elegant fruit and floral notes. |
