    CHATEAU MUSAR
Very interesting and lovely wines with a strong 'cult' following.
The whites are very unusual and well worth a try if you are fed-up with Chardonnay!

The reds are Bordeaux style, made from Cabernet and Cinsault grapes.
Tastes like good Rhône wine with cedary overtones, but not so heavy.
Great with Middle East cooking!
Can be kept for 20+ years if properly cellared.

Chateau Musar White
Two indigenous grape varieties - Obaideh and Merwah - were picked and pressed separately then blended together at the end of Spring 2004 to create this wine, which was bottled in September 2004 and stored at the vast Musar underground cellars for 5 years before being released.
Beautiful straw gold in appearance, this mature Musar white displays aromas of orange peel, sweet spice and stewed pears. The palate is rich and generous with almond and citrus fruit flavours. Serve at room temperature and treat it as if it were a red wine!

Chateau Musar White
I am also a lover of Chateau Musar white, which is slightly unusual, being made from two local Lebanese grapes. It seems to taste of cream, lemon and apples, so I think of it as a liquid tarte tatin. It’s not dry, but it’s not really sweet either, so it’s good on its own, or with desserts or fresh fruit (Sauternes with treacle pudding, say, is a disaster, since the sweetness of both cancel each other out). The Musar people say to serve it at ‘cellar’ temperature; if you don’t have a cellar, give it half an hour in the fridge door.” - Simon Hoggart on 2001 Chateau Musar White, The Spectator, February 2008.

Chateau Musar Red
Chateau Musar Red 2003, deep, intense ruby in colour, has a complex, intriguing array of aromas: toasted bread, cigar box, fresh tea, plums and Eastern spices. On the palate, there are mature fruits: plums, figs and cherries with hints of tea leaves and dark chocolate. The wine is intense and gregarious, the first taste releasing complex notes of currants, cherries and spice. The structure is light and airy, blending Musar’s classic fruit flavours with a hint of game and finishing with a cleansing acidity" - Château Musar tasting note.

Chateau Musar Red
Approximately a third each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan makes up the latest release from this famous Château which shows dark winter fruits, raisin, prune and vanilla spice aromas on the nose.
The palate has immense power dominated by dark plum, damson, liquorice and a toasty, spicy finish.
The wine was racked 6 months after the harvest and put in French Nevers oak barrels for one year. It was blended in the following summer, then left to rest for one year before bottling in July and August 2005.
The 2002 is one of the best vintages in recent years, which is thoroughly enjoyable now and will continue to develop for a further 10 years.

Chateau Musar Red
"Place your order now for the luscious new 2001 vintage Musar red. Old fans will know what to expect; new drinkers will savour that full, deep, leathery, smoky, perfumed richness - and of course the cedar notes - not surprising in a wine from Lebanon." - Simon Hoggart, The Spectator, Feb. 2008.

"Closer to a fine Bordeaux but will age gratifyingly well for a very long time. And you can drink it with pleasure now: all that soft, velvety, peppery, spicy, earthy, even chocolatey quality that is already there in spades." - Simon Hoggart, The Spectator, Feb. 2007.

Chateau Musar Red
"If the 1997 was Bordeaux-style, this gives more of a nod to the Rhone. An enticing dangerous scent of violets, game and incense, with a concentrated, full-throttle flavour of dense, sweet fruits." - Andrew Jefford, 'The Magic of Musar', Decanter Jan. 2004.

Lovely balance on the palate.
Good acidity, soft ripe tannins on the finish. Creamy richness but very elegant.
